Career Tips: Breaking Into the Workforce for New Grads

career tips

As a recent grad, I know first hand how hard it can be to break into the working world right out of school. While some students start working right away, most experience a gap between graduation and employment. It can be difficult and confusing for us twenty-somethings, and even those with jobs, to know what the proper protocol is in the working world. Luckily, there are many professionals out there with the experience and knowledge we need and are willing to help! I was fortunate enough to speak to Maddy Spellerberg, a marketing strategist at Obviouslee Marketing, and hear her career tips. Continue Reading

A Refreshing Reset: My Favorite Green Smoothie Recipe

Let me start this off by saying I do not believe in juice cleanses, diets or anything of the sort. Eat real food and use moderation and your body’s hunger cues to guide your meal decisions. I suggest a green smoothie as a supplement to your normal diet and this is also just my non-professional opinion.

With that said, I’m also guilty of over-indulging sometimes. Whether it be one too many drinks at the bar, or accidently eating an entire bag of popcorn (don’t act like you’ve never done it before), life happens and it’s ok to go overboard every now and then.

Even though it’s a part of life, over indulging can often make you feel like absolute sh*t the next day. You wake up bloated, tired, and you swear you’re going to eat nothing but lettuce for the next three days. In reality, your lettuce diet lasts for a whole hour before you run out of willpower because, realistically, it’s a terrible idea.

On days like these, I do like to make some sort of effort to make myself feel better both physically and mentally. My go-to? A green smoothie that’s full of nutrients that I missed in that late-night pizza, along with some scientifically proven metabolism-raising ingredients. Oh, and it tastes pretty good too. Together, they provide a drink that gets me back to my regular, healthy routine and also helps kick-start my metabolism for the day.

My Bachelorette Finale Party: Hosting on a Small Budget

If you follow me on Twitter then surely you know by now that I LOVE The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise. Is it overly dramatic, ridiculous, and likely all staged? Yes. That doesn’t mean it’s not entertaining to watch and an easy way to bond with your girlfriends! Surprisingly, being in love (or not at all) with the same men can really bring a group of women together.

This is, at least, the observation amongst my friends and I. As a result, it felt only natural for me to host a Bachelorette finale “party” Monday night. This way we could all wallow in Jojo’s horrible taste in men together (I’m talking about you Jordan…).

Luckily (or not), I don’t have a full-time job at the moment so I had ample time to prepare for the “party”. However, having no job also means having no funds. Still, I really wanted to make this gathering different from just any other day. I hounded the internet, mostly Pinterest, for ways I could surprise my friends without spending a lot of money. As it turns out, if you have scissors and a self-deprecating sense of humor (because what you’re about to do is going to be super corny) you can make a little go a long way.

Healthy Eats: An Intro to My Love of PROATS

Proats (aka Protein Oatmeal) is the one true love of my life. No, that’s not an exaggeration. For a few years now I have religiously eaten these delicious creations of gooey happiness at least three or four times a week. Hot or Cold (overnight oats is where it’s at y’all), I’m beyond obsessed.

While I’ve had enough practice over the years to know what it takes to make a killer proats combo it’s not the taste that keeps me coming back. Ok, that’s definitely part of it, but who doesn’t want to eat chocolate in the morning?!? Besides the pure bliss that comes from eating, what feels like, a lavish indulgence for breakfast, it’s the fact that it’s not an indulgence at all really that makes me such a devotee. How I Find Motivation On My Days Off

A challenge I’ve faced since moving back home after graduation is finding the motivation to really do something with my day when I, mostly, have nothing I have to do. Sound familiar? For awhile, I did nothing but relax. I woke up at 10 am pretty much everyday and maybe strolled to the gym, with some TV and snacking in between. This was great until I remembered that I am a 22-year-old with a college degree

It can be difficult to find motivation to keep working on your goals when there is no deadline or someone pressing you to do more. Why work hard when you can binge-watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians, right? Eventually, I realized I was keeping up with Kim and Kanye better than I was keeping up with my own life and knew that I had to get off my butt and do something that would, in the long run, be beneficial.

It didn’t happen overnight but over the past month or so I’ve found doing the following have allowed me to be more productive (functioning), motivated person and have brought me closer to my goals. If you’re stuck in a rut similar to what I was experiencing, my tips may work for you! Continue Reading
