My name is Hayley and I’m a 23-year-old fitness enthusiast living in Boston. When I’m not taking fitness classes, running, or lifting in the gym, I’m usually working at my job in public relations, listening to Dave Matthews Band and country music, or perusing Pinterest and Instagram.
I love fitness and healthy living for the spiritual and mental transformation it has given me. I was never a confident person growing up and struggled with severe anxiety all through high school. I first began exercising as a way to lose a little weight, but quickly became addicted to the mental health benefits it provided. Working out became like therapy for me – it helped me de-stress and clear my mind, eventually helping me to rid of my daily anxiety all together. As a result, I believe I’ve become a more driven, motivated, and confident person. Once I began working out regularly, I found myself excited to set goals and achieve them – something I hadn’t experienced before because of anxiety. I had the confidence to go out with friends, talk to new people, and try things that are a bit out of my comfort zone. I like to think it even helped me land my current job in PR.
None of these positives had anything to do with how I looked. I’ve found that working out, if you let it, teaches you to love yourself regardless of how you look – it shows you just how much you’re capable of achieving with your current, imperfect, body.
That’s where the blog’s name Alive & Well comes from – fitness isn’t about being “fit”, “ripped”, or “skinny”. It’s about enjoying life and finding the things that make you “feel alive” (as cliche as that sounds, it’s true!).
